A52 QUEEN STREET – To Become Boston’s By-Pass….!

Have The Boston By-Pass Party Members All Gone Away?

It seems like the Boston By-Pass Party have gone into hiding, or there simply refusing to communicate with their electorate. I know the one defected Boston By-Pass Party County Council member, now turned Independent, who has a seat on Highways so he can keep the pressure up on behalf of his Boston By-Pass Party colleagues back in Boston, not only appears to have got writers cramp, but has totally disappeared – that is if today is anything to go on!

Perhaps the most fundamental committee meeting of all since the Boston By-Pass Party have been in power, which can only be described as instrumental in the Boston By-Pass Parties Master Plan in two and a half years, took place today at Lincoln…Yes! the Planning and Regulation Committee agenda at County Council was discussing issues on the A52 Road Widening Scheme in Boston before been given the go-ahead.

Cllr Newell was ask by County to submit his comments or Ward issues on the 14th August which he failed to do. So…he could have attended the committee meeting today as the Ward Councillor, but failed again…. He could have had representation, but sadly, failed again!…I bet a lot of Tax-Payers would like to know what are we paying him for?..never mind his Ward constituents.

Just a thought, but if the Boston By-Pass Party fail this many times in one day, and this is their first big day in two and a half years, I just really wonder why we need them!

Even Mr Turner who contacted me via email today appears to be having the same concerns and problems and he’s a constituent in Cllr Newell’s Ward:-

Dear Councillor

My name is Pete Turner and I am a resident of Queen Street ( for one year).

I’m hoping you can take up our cause or help us !

I have contacted Lincolnshire & Boston Councils, and M. Simmonds about the planned roadworks outside our property’s asking for information etc. Both councils said they would send me information, neither did ! and Mr Simmonds responded by paper mail saying he will respond as soon as he knows something. The road works have started !

My biggest issue is lack of information, considering now we have just got massive road work signs appearing alongside our houses. No one seems to know whats going on but there is a lot of action and no discussion with the residents. There is no public info!

There is zero information for residents. This is unacceptable, especially as I have been pro-active in trying to find information out.

Please can you help explain whats going on, why are we being descriminated against ? Why are they not building a by pass further out of town ? There are so many options that I cannot understand why we should receive more road which in turn will continue to shake our houses to pieces and disturb our sleep on a nightly level !

Bostoners are being conned badly and I want to help stop this!

I hope you can help !  Thank you for your time.

Your sincerely
P Turner

So what’s happening with Mr Turner’s Ward County Councillor – Cllr Ray Newell?

Anyway, my reply to Mr Turner:-

Dear Mr Turner

QUEEN STREET ROAD WIDENING

Thank you for your letter regarding the above issue.

First I should inform you that this is not my Ward. Your Ward County Councillor who also sits on the Highways Committee is Cllr Ray Newell. He is also a Boston Borough Councillor.

I’m sorry you feel that you have not been kept up to date with matters. I really don’t think you are being discriminated against as you have mentioned in your letter to me, nor do I feel you are being coned.

I can inform you that there is a Planning meeting at Lincoln County Council this morning about this very issue. Work is due to start soon but I do not have a date yet, but will attempt to find out for you. It was planned to start at the back end which could be as soon as October 2009.

A report in this morning’s Planning and Regulation Committee of Lincolnshire County Council recommends conditional permission to widen a section of Queen Street in Boston as part of a bigger highways improvement scheme. The idea is to slice off chunks of Aldi’s car park and to replace the traffic lights that lead to the supermarket with a roundabout. Widen access at the second roundabout at the junction with Sleaford Road and West Street.

I have just had feed-back from the meeting at Lincoln and can confirm the works have been given approval to go ahead. When the work starts, it is anticipated to last about one year and will cost in the region of ten million pounds.

The Leader of Boston Borough Council, Cllr Richard Austin has stated back in April this year that this is another vital and instrumental step we have to take towards getting a Boston By-pass for the Town.

I hope this information helps, however, your own elected Ward Councillor should be able to help in these matter. In the mean time, should you have any more questions, then as a County Councillor myself I’ll do my very best to help.

Yours sincerely
Raymond Singleton-McGuire Cllr
Boston Borough Councillor
Lincolnshire County Councillor (Fishtoft Ward)
Vice Chairman – Fishtoft Parish Council

I Shall Be Contacting Steve Willis Of Highways Requesting That All residents In The Area Be Contacted Following Todays Planning Meeting

My further reply to Mr Turner:-

Dear Mr Turner

Further to my earlier email I can confirm the following:-

- The Tender letters have only recently gone out

- There will be a full time resident engineer on site all the time which is being sorted out now

- I have asked, and there will now be PR in the form of press releases in the local paper

- I have requested that all tenants, resident and businesses in the Queens Road and Liquorpond Street area should get a personal mail shot through each door to let people now what’s happening.

- The work is likely to not start until Xmas 09 or Jan 10

- Your letter request from Mark Simmonds MP is being prepaid and will be with you shortly

I hope this has answered your questions. If not drop me a line again.

Yours sincerely
Raymond Singleton-McGuire Cllr
Boston Borough Councillor
Lincolnshire County Councillor (Fishtoft Ward)
Vice Chairman – Fishtoft Parish Council
